Packaging Industry Company Finds Opportunity in Crisis

The global financial crisis has had a keenly felt effect on the folding carton industry. Nevertheless, some companies have managed to find new opportunities, despite the hard economic climate.

Zhejiang Zheng Run Machinery Co., Ltd. is one such company. At the onset of the economic downturn, it held an emergency meeting to discuss and analyze the financial crisis and then put into place coping strategies and future development plans to ensure the company remained sustainable in the short-term and could develop in the long term. This strategy included an agreement among company shareholders that no layoffs, or “downsizing”, would be enforced. This is because the management believes that opportunity and risk go hand in hand during a crisis.  

After assessing the situation, management decided to seize the opportunity by increasing investment; introducing advanced processing equipment; strengthening the expansion of the R&D team; speeding up the new product R&D process; improving the competitiveness of the company through technological innovation and improving the quality of products. In so doing, the company lived up to its philosophy: The Zheng Run brand is cast in quality.  Zheng Run Machinery is also looking to continue to build up brand-name products and its corporate image. The 2008 release of its automated carton making machine generated much positive feedback from the market.

In recent years, Zhejiang Zheng Run Machinery has put significant effort into new product development and achieved encouraging results. The automated cover machine already has several patents and invention patents, filling a large gap in the domestic market and achieving top ranking in the local industry. The technology used by the automated cover machine is equal to that used in the most developed countries. It also has European CE certification and is now exported to more than 30 countries with over 300 unique customers using it. The machine has been developed into 10 variations from a single model (the FD-AFM450). This way, it meets the assorted requirements of different customers. Following strong demand from customers, Zheng Run Machinery has successfully developed the SK350 small-sized automated cover machine, set to be launched into the market in early 2010.

At present, Zhejiang Zheng Run Machinery is the only supplier of fully-automated equipment for bound books and gift boxes.  The company also boasts a complete production line, as well as auxiliary equipment with a dozen different devices and specifications.
